Masterworks Series Thief, Poet, & Songs
With special guest pianist Dina Kasman, Christopher Confessore leads the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in a program that moves from Rossini’s brilliant comic overture (La gazza ladra) to one of the most beloved piano concertos ever written. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 opens with one of classical music’s most recognizable melodies and builds to a sweeping orchestral climax — with Kasman at the center. Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony, full of folk-inflected melodies and irresistible energy, closes the evening in high spirits.
