UAB Department of Music Presents Chamber Music @ AEIVA
Presented by UAB’s Department of Music and the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.
Join us for LUNA: A Celebration of the Moon
Chamber Music at AEIVA
The UAB Department of Music brings together musicians from Birmingham and Nashville and Virginia L. Montgomery’s exhibition, Blue Moon Cocoon. Montgomery’s surreal, synesthetic artworks unite elements of mysticism, physics, and neuroscience through an idiosyncratic visual vocabulary of recursive symbols and gestures, including imagery of luna moths the artist hand-raises in her studio.
Curated by Dr. Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk, revel in a musical journey to the moon through lute songs, works for piano, violin, piccolo, trombone, and chamber trio with the music of Debussy, Dowland, Biedenbender, Bradshaw, Neher, and local composer Matthew Scott Phillips.
Performers include pianists Yakov Kasman and Chris Steele, trombonist Caleb Owenby, violinist Bram Margoles, flutist Lisa Wienhold, trumpeter Jim Zingara, clarinetist Sarah Manasreh-Decker, lutenist Laudon Schuett, and soprano Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk.
The program unfolds throughout the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts’ galleries and atrium, creating an intimate and inspiring listening experience. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:00 p.m. — arrive early to mingle, enjoy light catering, and explore the art that inspired the music before the performance.
