Masterworks Series Rivers
Mozart specialist Evren Ozel joins the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, led by Kensho Watanabe, in a program inspired by Europe’s rivers. Schumann’s Third Symphony — the “Rhenish” — was inspired by the Rhine and captures both the grandeur of the river landscape and the warmth of the Rhineland communities along its banks; it remains one of the most joyful yet infrequently performed of the Romantic symphonies. Pianist Evren Ozel brings his celebrated touch to Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22, a work of conversational elegance and surprising harmonic depth. The program opens with Schubert’s Overture to Rosamunde, a graceful, melodically rich curtain-raiser that showcases Schubert at his most immediately appealing.
