AEIVA Presents Mock Trial: A New, Community-Driven Approach to Justice
UAB’s Justice Advocacy students and the UAB Pre-Law Program invite you to a powerful showcase inspired by AEIVA’s exhibition, In the Moment: Recent Acquisitions to AEIVA’s Permanent Collection.
This event features a socio-trial—a groundbreaking, community-driven approach to justice that goes beyond guilt or innocence. Socio-trials create space for truth-telling, accountability, and healing by blending restorative practices, participatory theater, and community dialogue.
As part of the audience, you become the jury—joining in deliberations that explore the deeper social, cultural, and political questions raised by the exhibition. Together, we’ll imagine what justice can look like when it seeks not just punishment, but transformation, reconciliation, and lasting change.
As a public institution of higher education, UAB adheres to principles of Free Speech, Civil Discourse and Institutional Neutrality. Freedom of Expression and Use of UAB Facilities Policy allows members of the UAB community to hold events on campus; views expressed do not represent the university, which adheres to institutional neutrality. Events held at UAB are required to comply with all applicable state and federal laws, and participation is not limited based on impermissible criteria (e.g., age, sex, race, national origin).
