UAB Arts in Medicine Magic Camp (Virtual Session 1)
Learning and performing magic tricks has been shown to benefit children and adults with disabilities. The approach is being shown to be an effective treatment technique as it promotes motivation, and improves physical, psychological, perceptual, or social functions in those who participate.
The annual UAB Magic Camp, hosted by UAB Arts in Medicine in partnership with UAB School of Health Professions Occupational Therapy Department, will be held virtually via Zoom AND in person this summer. It is designed for children ages 9 – 18 with disabilities. In each FREE camp, children will learn two to three magic tricks every week and be part of a group meeting so all the campers can get to know each other. The end of each camp will feature a streamed magic show performance for friends and family!
Virtual Camp Session 1
May 26 – June 27 (Week of 6/9 – 6/13 OFF)
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons via Zoom
The camp is taught by UAB OT students trained in the protocol developed by Dr. Kevin Spencer, who is an international authority on the therapeutic use of magic tricks in physical and psycho-social rehabilitation.
Please email us if you are interested in enrolling your child in any of the 2025 UAB Magic Camp sessions.
The lessons, the camp and the show are unforgettable highlights in our occupational therapy students’ journey that we would love to share with you and your family.
