Meet The Artist Series Alabama Symphony Orchestra “Composing Conversations”

Join Birmingham native, Dr. Brian Nabors and Chris Confessore, ASO SuperPops! Conductor, as they take the audience on a journey of a composer’s creative process. From inspiration to performance, this incredibly personal and meaningful concert, pays tribute to classical composers, digs a little deeper into musical structure and entertains as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra performs the beautiful soundtrack of a young composer’s career. For the first time, student audiences will enjoy Nabors’ “Letters from Birmingham,” a work commissioned by the ASO and debuted in our 2022-2023 Season. Nabors says, “From its inception as the steel capital of the South in the late 19th century, the city of Birmingham, Alabama has seen many changes. I could think of no better way to pay homage to my hometown and my identity than to compose a symphony, the first of its kind, to encapsulate the history, growth, and hope of Birmingham.”

This production can be a part of ArtPlay’s “A Day in the Arts” Initiative.  “A Day in the Arts” is an additional opportunity to explore the arts at UAB and lengthens your field trip.  Students may explore the visual arts from Abroms Engle Institute for the Visual Arts, hear another short performance and have lunch at the Alys Stephens Center.  Teachers also may receive a take home activity that aligns with the Alabama Course of Study.  We tailor these “extra” arts experiences to your school schedule.  Space is extremely limited for “A Day in the Arts”

Suggested Grades: Kindergarten – 5th
