The flourishing of youth orchestra programs in Latin America has drawn excitement and praise from the international community, generating similar models in other parts of the world that aim to spread the message of music as an instrument for social development. Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director Carlos Izcaray, a native of Venezuela, has both a personal history to share with the Birmingham community, as well as unique insight relating to the future of youth orchestras and music education.

El florecimiento de los programas de orquestas juveniles en América Latina ha traído entusiasmo y elogios de la comunidad internacional, generando modelos similares en otras partes del mundo que tienen como objetivo difundir el mensaje de la música como un instrumento para el desarrollo social. Carlos Izcaray, director musical de la Alabama Symphony Orchestra y natural de Venezuela, tiene no solo una historia personal para compartir con la comunidad de Birmingham, sino también una visión única relacionada con el futuro de las orquestas juveniles y la educación musical.
