The flourishing of youth orchestra programs in Latin America has drawn excitement and praise from the international community, generating similar models in other parts of the world that aim to spread the message of music as an instrument for social development. Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director Carlos Izcaray, a native of Venezuela, has both a personal history to share with the Birmingham community, as well as unique insight relating to the future of youth orchestras and music education.
