UAB Arts in Medicine and ArtPlay Summer Wellness Class Emotion Color Wheel

Teaching Artist Valerie Hanks, AIM's Artist in Residence
We will create an emotion color wheel and construct weekly characters to represent each emotion. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), who promote high-quality early learning for all young children birth through age 8, social-emotional learning is the key to every child’s ability to manage feelings and to interact successfully with others. Intentionally prioritizing, teaching, and enhancing these skills with preschoolers and early learners result in happy, engaged children who learn to avoid and resolve conflicts, share and take turns, and express their emotions in productive ways.
Suggested Supplies: Eight (8) paper plates, coloring markers or crayons (consisting of blue, pink, yellow, orange, red, gray, and black colors), one clothes pin, glue/sticks, scissors.
Optional: Tape and eight (8) popsicle craft sticks.
CAPACITY: 15
