Virtual Class Digital Mixtape

Teaching Artist Jameka Hartley
Digital Mixtape is an interdisciplinary course that explores the technique of telling digital stories. A digital story is a personal narrative told in the author/storyteller’s voice usually from a first-person perspective that is produced and accessed using digital mediums (video, audio, etc.). This course will be taught as a collaborative seminar/workshop format, with a focus on developing a well-told story. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of storytelling. They will develop an ability to strengthen writing skills through story boarding and drafting stories. In addition, students will be able to think critically about voice and whose stories get told and why. Students can also expect to develop technical skills as they produce their own digital story by the end of the course. Digital stories can be shared on a variety of platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and Vimeo.
