ArtPlay Community Art Education (ArtPlay)
Thanks to Jane Stephens Comer’s generous donation, UAB’s ArtPlay Community Art Education provides lifelong learning through the arts to all ages, skill levels, incomes and geographical areas through free and fee-based classes, events, performances and exhibits. These opportunities immerse individuals in a world of creativity that opens up a world of possibilities as they develop an understanding and appreciation for the arts. Since 2010, ArtPlay has touched the lives of over 150,000 individuals.
With weekly classes in the fall and spring, summer camps, ArtPlay — which also collaborates with the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, and UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine —provides enriching experiences to people of all ages in the Birmingham area.
ArtPlay offers about a dozen regular programs, including the classes and workshops, private musical lessons, summer camps in musical theater and visual arts, the ArtPlay Musical Theatre Intensive, visiting artists and performers and Vocabby’s World, a vocabulary building program for children.
ArtPlay, which held its first classes in January 2011, is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. Over the decade, the facility has served more than 140,000 people.
